In the Matter of Northwestern, FINRA (Sept. 2, 2009) – The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) entered into settlements with three firms to settle charges relating to the sale of auction rate securities (ARS). Northwestern Mutual Investment Services, LLC, was fined $200,000 and all three firms agreed to repurchase ARS sold to their customers where the auctions for the ARS had failed. Northwestern agreed to repurchase approximately $103 million.
In the Matter of Northwestern, NASD (Jun. 28, 2007) – NASD fined MML Investors Services, Inc., $473,000 for improper Class B share sales. The NASD also fined Northwestern Mutual Investment Services, LLC, $100,000 for failure to have adequate supervisory systems and procedures to ensure that clients received Net Asset Value (NAV) pricing under the firm’s NAV transfer programs. MML and Northwestern also provided additional remediation to customers who qualified for the NAV transfer programs.
